"Full Dive" VR would be possible eventually with our continued learning of how our bodies work between every discrepancy and complication we have between individuals. Is it close? No. For now, the best would be VR that senses the signals of the brain to then influence the player character while feeding visual and audio queues in normal VR means, possibly even weaving in sense of touch, smell and taste through those mediums. We already have tech doing this sort of thing. It's not fully accurate, but it's a reality as of right now. It's just not the cheapest thing compared to the typical screen and controller layout, where even motion control fell off due to the pricing and how deep people are actually willing to go into immersion. For now, we will enjoy the original video game methods, hope and do whatever support we can for VR, motion control, and the basic mental headsets that we wish to support, and wait for neuroscience and it's connected technologies to evolve to the point where deeper dives are possible without serious medical issues.
I realy understand that it is too difficult. BUT only 6 years ago Oculus Rift made revolution in topic of VR. So who knows what will happen after 3-6 years. And about discrepancy and complications. Our bodies have the same structure as our brains. Of course there will be some anomalies but VR have the same problems to ( as every aspect of our life ). So, I strongly belive that if someone will try to do it, his or her beginnings won't fall down.
