City Name Error[]
As a note, the romanization of this city name is wrong, probably due to a mistake in the novel translation. It should be "Granzam." Might need a redirect or article rename. -- Fallacies (talk) 19:58, November 30, 2012 (UTC)
Quite a few of the names written in katakana are actually words/names transliterated from English or other languages, with the katakana version being slightly different from the original, as not all syllables can be transliterated well (lack of appropriate kana). Therefore, a romanization doesn't necessarily mean that it's the official name. For example, we have confirmed "Thinker" and "Yulier" as the official names for the two characters, however, their katakana are romanized as "Shinkā" and "Yuriēru" respectively. So, unless we find proof that Grandum should be Granzam (verbal proof doesn't count for the reason mentioned before, it has to be written somewhere in English to avoid ambiguity), we're sticking with the BT version, as none of us are competent translators to decide which version is more appropriate. - "Dum" and "Zam" far enough apart that you can't fudge the pronunciation; "du" has an existent rendition as ヅ in Japanese, pronounced "zu." If it were that, it would be written that way. The standing text is ザ, pronounced "za." Comparatively, Yulier and Thinker are far closer to their Japanese text.
- There's no canonical basis for the BT translation of the name that I can find, unless the spelling in fact exists in English in some side publication I've never seen. Ergo, from where I stand, the BT translator's rendition has no more legitimacy than anything else. Further, they've been wrong before. -- Fallacies (talk) 14:21, June 29, 2013 (UTC)
