Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet (ソードアート・オンライン フイタル・バレット, Sōdo Āto Onrain Feitaru Baretto?) is a Third Person Shooter Role-Playing Game (TPSRPG), released on February 8, 2018[citation needed] on the PlayStation 4 for Japan, and 23rd of February on Playstation 4, XBox One, as well as Personal Computers (PCs) via Steam worldwide[1][2]. The game is being developed by Dimps, based on Unreal Engine 4,[3][4] and is set in Gun Gale Online.[5] It is the first Sword Art Online TPSRPG and the first Sword Art Online game on the Xbox One platform.[citation needed]

Game StructureEdit

Fatal Bullet follows the events of Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization and takes place in Gun Gale Online, a game released by Zaskar following the advent of The Seed. The base game includes two modes: the Main Story, which follows the player's custom character, and Kirito Mode, a mini-campaign focusing on Kirito where the Death Gun incident is adapted to fit the Gameverse. The two modes are accompanied by side events, focusing both on the main Gameverse cast, and the Fatal Bullet original cast. The final chapter of the main campaign also offers two default endings, depending on the player's choices, as well as a canon True Ending.

Sword Art Online Fatal Bullet has introduced three additional story campaigns via additional paid Downloadable Content (DLC). The first DLC, titled Champion of Gunfire (銃火の覇者, Jūka no Hasha?) in Japan and Ambush of the Imposters in the West, takes place before the later episodes of the game. The second DLC, titled Creator of Entrenchments (壕陣の造手, Goujin no Zoushu?) in Japan and Betrayal of Comrades in the West, follows up on the story of first DLC. The third DLC, titled Pilot of the Machine (機駆の馭者, Kiku no Gyosha?) in Japan and Collapse of Balance in the West, concludes the trilogy of prequel content additions.

Fatal Bullet also has an upcoming expansion pack, titled The Diva of the Snow Fields (雪原の歌姫, Setsugen no Utahime?) in Japan and Dissonance of the Nexus in the West. The story of this expansion pack will take place after the ending of the base game.

Kureha in SBC Glocken

Cutscene of Kureha welcoming the Protagonist to Gun Gale Online

Upon spawning in Gun Gale Online (GGO) for the first time, the Protagonist was amazed by SBC Glocken and its residents. Moments later, they were greeted by a girl in a pink outfit, who apologized for being late due to the tournament registration taking longer than she had expected. As she looked different from her real life persona and had a different name, the girl introduced herself as Kureha, the Protagonist's childhood friend. After introducing them to GGO and explaining the basics, Kureha led the way to the tournament area, where both of them were to participate together as a team.

On their way to the tournament, the Protagonist and Kureha met Itsuki, one of the top players in GGO, whom they later crossed paths with inside the tournament map. Highlighting his unluckiness, Itsuki did not wish to confront the boss in the next room and thus made a deal with them. As part of the deal, the Protagonist and Kureha defeated the boss, while Itsuki refrained from attacking them, as well as allowed them to be the first to choose their path at the next crossroad.

After parting with Itsuki, Kureha reminded the Protagonist of the need to be vigilant, since not everyone would be as nice as Itsuki. Just as Kureha highlighted that the rare item was their goal, the two stumbled upon a dormant teleporter. As the Protagonist waited in the middle of the room, Kureha jumped up to the console and accidentally teleported the Protagonist to another room while attempting to deduce how the controls worked.

While exploring the new room, the Protagonist found a strange capsule. Upon touching it, they were informed by the game's system that the Master Registration process had been completed. At that moment, the capsule rose upright and its lid slid open, revealing an Artificial Financial Adviser System Unit, or Afasys (ArFA-Sys in the Western localization) for short. As the Protagonist watched in awe, the Afasys Unit soared up, before promptly beginning to fall. At that instant, a weapon targeting the Protagonist missed its mark due to the Protagonist rushing to the Afasys Unit.

Kirito ModeEdit

Kirito was very intrigued by the UFG device the Protagonist had, so he decided to have a conversation with them regarding the weapon. He could not hide his excitement over the fact that the Protagonist was the only person who had it in GGO, since the item was not in the loot table yet for players. After they talked about how much of an advantage the UFG gives one in PvP, Death Gun became the topic of the conversation. To ensure Kirito would be prepared to face Death Gun in an unexpected situation, the Protagonist offered to let him have the UFG when they were not online.

In his home, Kirito talked to Asuna and Yui about him deciding to face off against Death Gun. Asuna said she and others wanted to help him as well but Kirito refused the offer and explained that Kikuoka Seijirou prepared a new account for him for safety concerns regarding Kirito and his friends becoming possible targets. Kirito also mentioned his suspicions about Kikuoka’s job offer to help with the Death Gun Incident, but he still accepted due to the good pay.

After parting with Asuna and Yui, Kirito logged off from his personal account and switched over to the one set up by Kikuoka to use against Death Gun. Spawning in Governor's Lobby as Kiriko, Kirito realized how feminine his avatar looked. In the lobby, Sinon found him as he was being talked to by two male players and intervened, thinking he was a female player getting harassed. Because he refused the help of everyone, Kirito decided to keep his identity secret for the time being, as he discovered Sinon was also signing up for the Bullet of Bullets tournament.

When Kiriko and Sinon were both registered, they came across Spiegel. While he kept praising Sinon for her personality, she shared that the reason she joined BoB was to take out Death Gun for herself and her friends. Spiegel, who was not registered for BoB, was surprised by her reasons and claimed Death Gun was just cleansing the game by eliminating bad actors. He continued that Sinon was very strong and she did not need to do anything for her friends. Sinon refuted by claiming she was weak and how others were providing the support she needed all this time, thus she decided to face Death Gun alone.

With BoB about to start, Sinon dragged Kiriko into the changing rooms, still unaware that Kiriko was Kirito and started to change her outfit. Realizing where this was heading, Kirito decided to reveal that Kiriko was indeed him and not some female player. After he explained the circumstances, they decided to team up to have a better chance against Death Gun.

Kirito explained that he found Spiegel’s actions to be very suspicious and compared him to how he acted back in Sword Art: Origin’s Ainground where they had first met him as Richter. Sinon explained that he was just frustrated with his character build in GGO, because he received some bad tips.

With the preliminaries underway, Kirito, using the Kiriko account, decided not to do anything flashy to attract unwanted attention. With the Pistol and Photon Sword combo he is used to playing with, he had no issues getting the best of his opponent in the first qualification round. As he was waiting for Sinon’s results, a guy with a ragged cloak confronted him in the lobby.

The person did not introduce himself, but directly referred to Kiriko as “Kirito”, as he had recognized the sword technique he had used in the first preliminary round. Upon this remark, Kirito was certain he knew this person from one of the Sword-based games he played before, Sword Art: Origin (SA:O) or ALfheim Online (ALO). After he showed Kirito his Laughing Coffin tattoo, Kirito blanked out momentarily, realizing the player was one of the Player Killer’s (PKers) back in Sword Art Online’s Aincrad.

After her match, Sinon found Kirito in the lobby, looking very pale and unfocused. Kirito got back to his senses and explained what he just discovered to her and what Laughing Coffin did, before Sinon appeared in Aincrad on Floor 76. Kirito also shared his regret at not even remembering the names and the faces of the people he had killed during the assault on Laughing Coffin.

Having calmed down slightly, Kirito proceeded through the second preliminaries with ease and met with Sinon in the lobby again. While talking about how they are going to handle Death Gun, Kirito realized that the voice of the player with the ragged cloak, matched the sound recording of Death Gun that Kikuoka Seijirou provided him. He deduced that this person, whom he crossed swords with before, was a high ranking Laughing Coffin member, yet he still could not remember his name.

But with 2 preliminary rounds concluded, the main Bullet of Bullets tournament was now starting. Kirito spawned in the middle of the desert somewhere on the Solitary Sands map that was chosen for the final match. As the unknown Kiriko, Kirito assumed he would not be targeted immediately and carefully started heading to the center of the map in hopes of finding Sinon.

Sinon, who spawned elsewhere, decided to lay low until she met with Kirito, but soon she crossed paths with 2 players dueling each other. As she watched from afar, Sinon realized one of the players had a ragged cloak and she immediately realized it was Death Gun. She wanted to get closer to see Death Gun’s avatar name, but realized the player in white, Pale Rider, was in trouble. She shot and killed him first, giving away her position, but saving Pale Rider’s life in the process by not allowing him to die against Death Gun. She decided to move away from her location to not be targeted by Death Gun.

In Kirito’s room, everyone who was left behind, were busy watching the tournament and from his swordplay, they immediately realized the person controlling Kiriko was Kirito. While Yuuki wanted to take a screenshot of Kiriko, the feed changed to a different camera and this time, it was the one following Sinon. It did not take long for them to realize it was Sinon, because of her sniper and looks that was unchanged, aside from her outfit. While everyone was surprised that Sinon joined BoB, Agil suddenly requested to rewind the feed and brought the Laughing Coffin logo of Death Gun to their attention. Upon this revelation, Asuna left the room to inform Kikuoka.

Having reached the center of the map, Kirito assumed Sinon was already in a good sniping position. He observed the location and headed straight to the most favorable location he could find, only to find Sinon struggling against Death Gun. Upon Death Gun’s question, Kirito revealed that he was using the Kiriko account and read the name of Death Gun as “Steven”. As Death Gun, growing more confident that Kirito did not remember his name, was about to challenge him to a duel, more players started fighting right below the platform they were on. Deeming the location to be unsuitable to dispense judgement, Death Gun ran away, leaving Kirito to deal with other players gaining on their location.

After the fight, Sinon and Kirito took shelter in a cave, as Sinon explained how powerless she felt when she froze against Death Gun and the firearm he was using. She shared her memories of when she killed the robber of a bank with that gun and how that event left her traumatized. She wanted to fight back, but Kirito interjected, saying it was too dangerous. When Sinon mentioned her real body was safe at her home, Kirito thought about how Death Gun might have been killing people in GGO. He explained that Death Gun most certainly had an accomplice in real world, killing people at their homes, when he pulls his trigger in GGO.

With this theory mentioned, Sinon remembered that people who want to receive rewards based on their success in BoB, were able to enter their real life information, including their addresses on the registration form. Sinon suddenly got shaken by the realization that she too had entered her information to Zaskar database. Kirito tried to ease her concerns by reminding her that Death Gun was the first one to kill among all cases, specifically with his handgun, rather than his real life accomplice. He suggested Sinon should stay far and safe as he went out to lure Death Gun to an open location.

Being confronted by Kirito on the field, Death Gun looked unshaken even after Kirito told him he found out their secret. As long as Kirito had not remembered his name, Death Gun was safe. He surprised Kirito further by drawing his handcrafted sword, but also gave him a lead on remembering his name based on the style of the sword, an estoc.

Death Gun continued to tease Kirito and reminded him of their confrontation in Aincrad. Death Gun had told him his name back then, but Kirito had not listened to him, thus did not even know his name. As their fight continued, Death Gun talked about his promise to Kirito, which made him recall that they met sometime after SAO, in Origin, when somebody logged in on the account of Richter. At that point, Kirito also remembered that he participated in the pre-assault meeting where Asuna mentioned an estoc user from Laughing Coffin. He recited the names of high-ranking Laughing Coffin officers, Johnny Black who used poison knives and another player who had red hair and eyes, and used an estoc.

Both charged at each other, Death Gun, quickly knocking Kirito’s handgun off his hand with a quick thrust, used a Sword Skill to push him further away. Kirito charged back and locked his sword with Death Gun’s estoc. Coming eye to eye with him, Kirito remembered the name of the player as Red-Eyed XaXa and shouted the name at his face. Hearing his name and realizing that he now could be found by the Ministry of Internal Affairs via the Aincrad logs, Death Gun lost his balance and stepped back.

While both parties were weighing each other, standing still, Sinon aimed at Death Gun with her sniper, generating a Bullet Line that distracted him and made him take his eye off of Kirito. As Death Gun dodged backwards and tried using his camouflage cloak, Kirito rushed forward, grabbed his pistol from the ground and shot at Death Gun to prevent him from cloaking. Before he could gain his balance back, Kirito slashed Death Gun and his handgun in half in one slash.

Before getting shattered into polygons, Death Gun used his final moment to threaten Kirito, mentioning he was not acting alone and that he would suffer. Sinon came to Kirito and shared her worries that Death Gun’s accomplice may be standing right next to her right now at her home. Kirito promised he would come to check her after they log off and that the hospital he was logging in from was nearby. To end the tournament, Sinon used a parting grenade to take them both out at the same time, resulting in both of them getting crowned as winners.

Asada Shino woke up from her dive on her bed and started checking around to ensure she was safe. Shortly after, Shinkawa Kyouji rang the doorbell and Shino opened the door for him. Taking a seat inside, Kyouji started asking about Shino’s feelings towards him and Kirito. Going crazy over his jealousy, Kyouji tried injecting Shino with a syringe. Before Kyouji could succeed, Kirito appeared in Shino’s apartment to prevent him and police sirens started coming from outside.

When they logged back in afterwards, everyone was in Kirito’s room to congratulate them both on winning BoB. Kirito explained how Death Gun operated, as he learned from Kikuoka that there were 2 people acting as Death Gun. Shinkawa Kyouji, known as Spiegel in GGO and as Richter in Origin, and his older brother, Shinkawa Shouichi, who was the Laughing Coffin member, Red-Eyed XaXa from Aincrad. They were operating Death Gun from the account named Sterben, rather than Steven. He also learnt about his cloak that had an ability called Metamaterial Optical Camouflage, which allowed him to turn invisible and how he used this to read up on the personal information that people were entering on their registration form.

Kikuoka also mentioned that Shinkawa brothers claimed they had not stolen any NerveGears and the earlier reports of stolen NerveGears were in fact not originating from them. Kirito attempted to tell the Protagonist to warn others regarding situation, but realized that they were not in the room and neither were Kureha, Zeliska and Itsuki. When Yui attempted to message Afasys, she received an error that she no longer was in GGO.

Since none of them were answering their messages either and nobody had their real life information, it was impossible to contact any of them. Yui decided to investigate their whereabouts and asked Strea and Premiere to help her. Premiere decided to ask Seven for assistance. While Sinon and Leafa wanted to search around GGO to find them, Kirito told them that he had a bad feeling and that they should prepare for a fight instead.
