Sword Art Offline 9 (そーどあーとおふらいん9, Sōdo Āto Ofurain 9?) is the ninth and last episode of the Sword Art Offline extra series that was bundled with limited edition version Blu-ray Discs and DVDs. This episode is anchored by Leafa and Kirito, with Asuna (as Titania) as the special guest in this episode.
Plot[]
News Headlines[]
Leafa reported that Kirito the Spriggan has reached the top of the World Tree, but that it was then revealed that neither the Grand Quest, nor Floating City ever existed, while the Fairy King, or rather, Sugou Nobuyuki calling himself the Fairy King had captured 300 Sword Art Online (SAO) survivors and had been conducting inhumane experiments on them.
Leafa then also reported that ALfheim Online had been reborn as a result of Kirito defeating Nobuyuki. Because of this, the flight time limit of all fairies was lifted and the Floating Castle Aincrad appeared in the skies of Alfheim, with many players now challenging the floating castle that once housed the death game.
Sword Art Trivia[]
- Main article: Magic
Yui revealed that each word in ALO's spells carries its own meaning, and various effects can be achieved by combining them. Yui mentioned two examples: if a spell begins with Þik (シク, Shiku?, "Thik" in plain English), then the spell is directed at caster, while if a spell begins with Oss (オース, Ōsu?), the spell is directed at the caster's party. Thus, if one can hear the words used in the spell, it is possible for the player to anticipate what effects the upcoming spell will have, though countering the spell is still difficult.
Playback Corner[]
In this corner, Leafa and Kirito commented on several scenes that appeared in the fourth volume of the BD/DVD (Episodes 23-25) together with this week's special guest, Asuna.
They commented on:
- The scene during which Kirito hugged Leafa and apologised to her (Episode 23).
- The scene during which Asuna, Yui and Kirito were reunited (Episode 24).
- The scene during which Oberon licked Asuna's avatar (Episode 24).
- The scene during which Leafa shed tears of joy after Kirito asked her to join him on his quest (Episode 25).
Sword Art Trivia[]
Yui revealed that Kayaba Akihiko had performed high resolution scan of his own brain and and converted his consciousness to digital code, thus, physically he is dead, but it is impossible to analyze what sort of existence he is now.
Slot Talk[]
In this section of the episode, the slot picked the topic of "goals" for the guest of this episode, Asuna. Leafa said she had achieved her goal of the day by having a fun conversation with Asuna, despite Kirito thinking that it was not a meaningful goal, as it was not hard to achieve. Asuna revealed that her goal was to repurchase the Log House that she and Kirito had bought on the 22nd Floor in the old Aincrad. But, as house purchases are made on a first come, first serve basis, they would need to be the first ones to reach the 22nd Floor and for that, they would need to take point on the 21st Floor's boss assault. Kirito then speculated that the reason why Asuna was quick to resort to violence during the episode was because she was already in battle mode, with Asuna affirming this guess by stating that she had already formulated a plan. Thus they all set off to fight, in order to buy the house once they reach the floor.
