Ceramic Heart (セラミックハート, Seramikku Hāto?), released at COMITIA 84 on May 5, 2008, is the 3rd Material Edition written by Kunori Fumio. The story features Yui learning the concept of love and loss.
Plot[]
The story begins with Yui pondering the concept of "love". It is revealed that ten days before, while in ALfheim Online (ALO), a boy had confessed to her. Mistaking that as an attepmt to monopolise her, she had rejected him. The boy, however, explained that his intention was just to finally talk to her before resigning from the game. Later, the confused Yui asked Asuna what the boy had meant, and she replied that Yui should ask him the next time they meet. However, the boy had already deleted his account, thus Yui accessed the account's remaining personal information in the ALO servers and tracked him to his place of residence. Asuna, connected to Yui through the Audiovisual Bidirectional Communication Probe, went to the house, where she discovered that the boy was actually an elderly man, who had taken up a hobby of going into virtual reality games in his last years but had recently passed away. Before his death, the elderly man had mentioned to his adult daughter that he had seemingly met his deceased wife in ALO.
In the end, Yui concluded that the sense of loss was the meaning of love.
