The newly unlocked 36th floor in the floating castle of Aincrad was unlike any other. Unlike the previous floor which was a shadowy dungeon filled with monsters that surrounded the small safespot of Verethra, the 36th floor was a large grass plain, luscious with greenery and radiating with life.
It was near the end of spring in the new world that had been stolen away from the 10,000 players who had been trapped in the world of Sword Art Online by Kayaba Akihiko, the genius who invented the NerveGear.
Kirigaya Kazuto, better known as Kirito, lay in a large grass meadow of the 36th floor, thinking of the horrific event that had just happened in the battle just a few minutes before.
Only moment ago, Kirito, along with members of the Knights of Blood, the Divine Dragon Alliance, and a few other solo players had battled the 35th floor boss. Despite defeating it, they had a total of 7 deaths among the members of the raid party out of the total 28 who had participated. With one-fourth of the party killed and the 3000 deaths that had summed up over the past 8 months, the prisoners of SAO had begun to become discouraged at the slow rate of progress and the high mortality rate.
Like any other boss fight that Kirito had fought before, the players with the highest agility would draw the attention of the boss where the tanks would charge in and the rest of the parties would rotate as the others heal.
The raid on the 36th floor boss was led by the one of the leaders of the Divine Dragon Alliance tank division by the name of Serisha. Serisha was renown as one of the most beautiful knights in the game aside from the second in command of the Knight of Blood Asuna, and Madame Vicera who was the only weaver in the entire game who had nearly mastered the “Sewing” skill in only 6 months.
After entering the dungeon-like room, the party was confronted by the 35th floor boss, according to Argo the Rat, was called Heilscitch the Demon Champion. Serisha and 6 others of the Divine Dragon Alliance rushed forward to confront the boss, completely unaware of the surprises that lay ahead of them. Within a moment’s flash, seven pillars of red were sent flying through the air as the bodies were instantly defeated and scattered into light blue crystal shards. The rest of the raid party could only watch in shock as the first party was quickly decimated without the boss moving even an inch.
It was only after the deaths had Kirito understood the events that had just unfolded. As Serisha’s party attacked, they had been defeated by 4 Shadow Warrior minions. Although unknown by Argo, the Champion was a monster of immense strength and defense whereas the 4 minions moved at a lightning fast speed.
After explaining the details of the boss and the minions to the rest of the raiding party, a moment of silence was followed by a horrific realization. This boss was not one that could be defeated like the previous bosses because in this fight, they had to carefully plan it or they would all be killed.
